Prof. Dr. Adel El-Beltagy

Professor El-Beltagy is the Ex-Minister of Agriculture in Egypt. He is the chair of the Board Executive Committee of Bibliotheca Alexandrina,  Chair of the International Dry land Development Commission (IDDC), former Professor at Ain Shams University, and the former president of the Governing Board of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM).

Professor El-Beltagy is also a former Board Member of Egypt’s Supreme Science and Technology Council, former vice-chair/ member of the Global Diversity Trust Fund, former Board Member of Third World Academy of Science Council (TWAS), former fellow of the University of Wales, former foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Moscow, and a former honorable Professor of the Scientific Council of Azerbaijan Agricultural Academy.

Dr. El Beltagy took leading posts both at home and abroad: He was the Chairman of the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (2006-2010) and Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA (1995-2006). At home, he was Director/board Chairman of Agricultural Research Center, Egypt, and first Under-Secretary of State for Land Reclamation (1987-1995). His contributions are recognized in Egypt and abroad. He won the State Award in Science in 2008, Sultan Qaboos’s ‘First Class’ Order for science and culture (2008), the Golden Medal Award for a achievements in agriculture, Armenia( 2006), Al-Istikbal Medal by His Majesty King Abdullah, Jordan (2005), Sahel and Sahara Observatory Honorary Medal (2003), FAO silver medal in recognition for outstanding efforts and support for the  biological diversity and sustainable development of natural resources and agriculture development (1993), and the Golden Pen of the International Society of Horticultural Science (1982) .
